As the western gateway of the Alpine Wilderness Area, Skykomish draws visitors from all over the country with its beautiful landscape, rich history, vast wilderness, spectacular vistas, outstanding attractions, unlimited lakes and trails and a prosperous business climate. Incorporated in 1909, the City of Skykomish began in 1893 as a rail town for the Great Northern railroad. Nestled in mountain forests, and supported over the years by rail, timber, mining, and tourism industries, Skykomish has prospered through the twentieth century and into the twenty-first century, while many nearby mountain communities have faded back into the green.

An attractive destination for visitors and many who will make Skykomish their home, the city is enriched in history, culture and more importantly a strong sense of community. All are welcome; no one should miss all that enchanting community has to offer.
